ECOVIZ is an interactive environmental data visualization platform that transforms complex climate datasets into intuitive, engaging experiences through motion, interaction, and generative design. By combining UX principles, data storytelling, and creative technology, the project helps users explore environmental information in a more accessible and meaningful way.
the PROBLEM
Environmental data is often presented through static charts and dashboards that communicate facts but fail to create emotional understanding. While the information is accurate, it is difficult for everyday users to interpret, limiting awareness and engagement with climate issues.
the challenge
How might we transform complex environmental datasets into intuitive, interactive experiences that help people not only understand climate data, but also feel connected to it?
The challenge was to balance scientific accuracy with engaging visual storytelling while designing interactions that remained accessible and meaningful.
Designed ECOVIZ, an interactive visualization system that transforms environmental datasets into immersive visual experiences.
Created four unique visualization systems:
DropPulse — Rainfall
BreatheGrid — Air Quality
FrostBloom — Snowfall
SolarTrace — Solar Energy
Each system responds to real environmental data through distinct motion, interaction, and visual language, making invisible climate patterns easier to explore and understand. The project demonstrates how interaction design can bridge the gap between scientific information and human emotion.
LEARNINGS
Through ECOVIZ, I learned that effective data visualization is about more than presenting numbers—it is about creating understanding.
It also reinforced the importance of designing systems that are both informative and engaging, allowing users to explore complex datasets through intuitive interaction rather than passive observation.
